Research and Reflection
My first experience using the PBI framework was in ECI 546: New Literacies and Global Learning. The PBI process I engaged in led to two of my findings listed above: the power of the B-D-A framework (Finding 1) and using new technological tools with students (Finding 4). During this class, my colleague, Michelle, and I partnered up for over 2 months to engage in a pre-reading project with my students. We explored whether using the website Glogster could help effectively build students' background knowledge before reading the novel The Outsiders. This project was the first time I had ever put so much time and effort into engaging in a project with my students that involved technology, so it definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone. I had to do a lot of assessing, problem-solving, reflecting, and adjusting my instruction to make this project work. However, taking this risk helped me "break free" of my fear of using technology in the classroom and led to my endeavors in using technology more frequently throughout the last two years.
